Anybody ever played a Schilke P7?
Does anybody know how they compare to the Yamaha 9820C?
I know that the bore size is slightly different (according to the Schilke Loyalist the P7 was .437 but now seems to be .450) and the 9820C is (I believe .445).
Also, the P7 has a P5-4 style leadpipe and the 9820C has a leadpipe that turns back on itself.
Thanks. |

I get into the Schilke shop a lot and have played the P7 a few times. I own a 9820C and love it. The Schilke P7 feels more like the 9820, but is a little more focused with better articulation. I also feel the sound of the P7 is somewhere between the Schilke P5-4 and the Yamaha 9820. It is a wonderful horn

haven't played the P7 - but have owned a 9820c for 7 years or so and really love it - added a blackburn pipe in A several years ago and it made a great horn even better - only missed the xtra low notes a couple of times - but was able to work around it (eg. played the 1st not of Let the Bright Seraphim up an octave as a low C - finally bought a used Selmer 4 valve for those occasions when I really need the low notes and can't fake my way out of it - probably need a D or picc in G) - HTH.
