I am planning on getting a guard for my silver plated cornet from leather specialties. they are going to have to custom design it since they don't have one to fit currently.

My question is should I go for the standard one that just covers the valve cluster or the special guards that cover the right thumb and left index finger and/or third slide as well?

appreciate hearing from those of you that use these.

Thanks....Lee

I have Leather Specialties on all my horns and they all have the additional guard areas you mentioned; I have no wear marks on any of my horns.

I use it on both my Flugel and my trumpet. In both cases, I purchased the one with the full protection.

My gold horns use the standard. My silver horn has a custom special, where the 3rd valve slide is covered but the bell and leadpipe are not.
