I find that one of mine is starting to make a grinding sound and sticking/hanging up a bit when depressed. I have been putting a drop or two of oil in the key and down the lead pipe. Is there any other maintenance that should (could) be done? What happens before these things let go? _________________ Earl

I you can ( I don't have one) pop them out and clean them. I have normal spit valves and sometime grim can mess up the spring so I have to clean it out. _________________

My 3051 has standard water-keys. But if I remember the amado's correctly, you can disassemble them if you have a pair of (small) C-Clip ring pliers. Once you get that C-clip off, the guts should come right out and you can clean the thing. Then put the parts back in in reverse order and replace the C-clip.
The problem, however, is that once you get that C-clip loose, there's about a 80% chance that it will go flying across the room and you'll never see it again. Or it might fly up and hit you in the eye...in which case you'll still never see it again. (Does anyone remember that shop-class poster; with the guy wearing the eye-patch and the text: "This eye never saw what hit me...and never will." Hehe... anyhoo)
So you might want to arrange to find out what size clip it is and have some extras around (probably not a bad idea, anyway). Safety glasses wouldn't hurt, either. _________________ John Ford's next stop:
