In 1886 Mathias J. H. Kessels started building brass instruments in the city of Tilburg in the South of the Netherlands. The company lasted until 1954, from 1940-1954 under a different name. The early 1900's were its best years, they didn't just build brass instruments but also woodwinds, stringed instruments and even pianos.
The post-WWII instruments were not very good, when I started banding in the early 50's Kessels was just about the only make available in Holland but we switched as soon as we could, mostly to UK instruments (Besson, B&H).
The "Haags Gemeentemuseum" (Museum of The Hague) might be able to help date the instrument concerned.
Hope this helps a bit. |

Interesting horn! Is it just me, or do the wrap and bell flair look a bit different from most other flugels? |
