Yes, Jay studied with Joe Phelps (an Adam student) @ Appalachian State, then went to IU and worked with Adam. He did his DM @ USC, where I think he worked with Roy Poper (a Stamp disciple).
Also, I believe Joe Phelps is retired from ASU.

I play with Jim in the Des Moines Big Band every Monday night. We just released our 6th CD. All commisioned arrangements of Thad Jones music. Arangements by Abene, Berger, LaLama, Washut, McKee, Merz. |

I see from you're website you're from SDSU. You guys have a gorgous auditorium. I really enjoyed playing there when we came down for the SD Bandmasters Convention in Feb. |

Glad you liked the hall... I enjoyed your concert at the convention. It's always neat to hear NSU's trumpets - I can hear so much of Manhart in you guys (which is a good thing). Take it easy!
