If I'm fresh, and have everything working right, I can 'mouse toot' a dubba, but no way would I ever say I can play one as a legit note. It has always been my understanding you can't play what you don't practice, so I still practice range IF I've been able to practice daily for a few weeks and am doing it by air support and relaxed neck (thank you LeeC) rather than by sheer force.

I think EVERYBODY that posts on an internet site is FOS about 7 per cent of the time. Lets face it, if you choose the written word as your communication medium, you are going to have a good imagination. I know I've let the adjectives run away from time to time.

Does it count if I have owned a double C every once in a while? I too can squeak one out, but once in a blue moon I can actually hit it. I don't really need to hit it for anything, so there is no real reason to work on it I suppose. As far as the poll, I think the number of BSers is very high. Internet is a wonderful medium for hyperbole.

I'd define "owning" a high note as being able to play it as confidently and musically as any note in the staff, at whatever stage of a gig you're in. I agree with MrClean - high note mastery is only one part of being a good trumpet player. And, it's not a very important part unless you are in a stage/big band and are ecpected to do it regularly. Remember that Arban said to use the notes around high C sparingly. Even though trumpet technology has advanced since his time, I believe in traditional music this still holds true. Play Carnival of Venice up an octave and see who likes that better than the original (only high-note geeks).
