14 in a row, baby! This year was particularly sweet -- they win the best division in baseball (all the teams are currently above .500), and they do it with a bunch of rookies!
Although Cox is a serious contender for Manager of the Year, and rightfully so, this one goes out to the entire organization, down to single-A players and managers. It really is the best organization in baseball for grooming players. They know what to expect early on, and when they get called up, they are already seasoned. They are comfortable in the system and ready to contribute.
Hats off to another wonderful, exciting season!

Ditto for the Bravos!
Only John Smoltz and Bobby Cox were there when they started the run. What a manager.
BUT...Bobby needs one more World Series titles before he can write his name in history as one of the very best ever.

That is quite an amazing feat. I don't think any other club is sports history has won 14 straight division titles. Congrats to them. _________________ DT

Yeah, the Braves need another World Series title to go with those 14 division championships. I recall a game at Atlanta Fulton County Stadium back around 1977 or 78 when there were about 1100 at the game. Talk about an empty looking stadium. I commented to a friend that there is a whole generation of Braves fans that have a very different perspective than those of us who have followed them since the move in 1966 from Milwaukee (I was in the fifth grade). Of course, our history with the Braves just makes all this a bit sweeter. |

I remember going to Fulton Co. Stadium with my dad to see Hammerin' Hank and the Bravos about 1969 or 1970, and there could'nt have been more than 3000 in the stands. This was a few years before he was a major contender for #714, so he didn't have the draw then to sell out the stadium he later had. The one thing I do remember was he hit a dinger that got out of the park faster than anyone I've ever seen since, just a line drive that kept climbing. |

I hate this -- the Astros and the Braves are my 2 favorite teams. I wish this year would go to the Astros so Clemmons could get a ring in honor of his mother, and the Astros could finally win the series.
It's nice to have the White Sox making a run -- new blood is always nice! _________________ C - Harrelson 750 Modified Bach Strad

AAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!
They just can't play in October. Actually, they did much better than they were supposed to this year. If they can add a couple of good starters and a closer that can close, look out again next year. |

I'm so happy that Clemmons was the man to end the game on the mound. My favorite Astro, Morgan Ensberg, did nothing at the plate today, but he was spectacular in some of the other games in the series. I hope he has a great NLCS and then is the Co-MVP in the World Series along with Clemmons!

Well, the bullpen cost us again. Farnsworth showed why he was never a closer in Chicago.
DANG!
Well, we have a great future ahead of us with all those young'uns!
From here on, go ChiSox --
