Anybody have info on James Morrison? I've heard his name mentioned quite a lot as a great player, but never heard anything until now:

MAN, you gotta here this.
Especially the big Doc fans out there.

The CD is Lalo Schiffrin's "Intersections: Jazz Meets The Symphony #5," and the cut is "Scheherezade Fantasy."

James Morrison wails, with an obvious helping of Severinsen influence. His performance is just beautiful, soaring, brilliant, exquisite, and powerful. Five words that I hardly EVER use together in the SAME sentence when describing any of the current crop of pros out there.

Of course, Doc is still one of them, pushing that full description to even farther limits in hisperformance last October at Hattiesburg, Mississippi (Night Of A Thousand Trumpets).

I'm a late discoverer of James Morrison's playing, this being my first exposure (hey- gotta start somewhere), and all I can say is WOW.

Anybody ever seen him play live?

Have had James Morrison on my Faves list. Great player from Down Under. Jerome Callet likes his technique. Morrison is mostly self-taught. The samples of his "Scream Machine" and other CDs, are impressive.

If you go to Trumpet Stuff.com you can not only hear clips of James Morrison you can connect to his site. He is amazing! He plays quite a few instruments. In fact on some of his CD's he plays every instrument on the CD.

Check out his multiphonics on Trombone. It sounds like 3 trombones. He may be the best all around musician that I have ever heard.

As a trombonist as well, I have to say, Multiphonics are the best part of playing the trombone! Sing the 10 above the note you're playing and the horn provides the 5th, and you have a major triad...I've never been able to get anything similar on the trumpet...

Just had to jump in, sorry it had nothing to do with James Morrison (who is awesome - I love the dual Trumpet = Trombone guys like him and Maynard!!!)

peace - jay

A friend of mine is a tromboneplayer in the BayrischerRundfunk-Orchestra Munich. They had some concerts with James Morisson. He told me that he was really impressed of Morissons trombone playing, especially after changing the instruments several times in this concert. After this concert he thought about learning violin or any non-brass instrument He told me that he never saw Morisson do a warm-up before he started to play! Awesome guy, with a great sound and an unique technique!

James was invited by Maynard to come out of the audience tonight and play a blues with Maynard's band during their Sydney gig.

As Aussies have come to expect and love, James pulled his cold horn out of the case and blew everyone away. A great moment for the packed house in The Basement!

I just heard him live at the Juvavum Brass Festival in Salzburg, Austria.
I've never before heard anything like this - at least not this all together played by one single man.
He is not only an amazing musician but has also a great sense of humor. I was really thrilled by his great performance.

I saw Morrison in TV - this player is dynamite!

Never have seen a player using the valves when trumpet was
in upside down position. Morrison switches between trumpet and
trombone playing to relax.

Yeah, and playing the horn upside down is Clark's trick as well.
