Here's a fascinating look at the CSO's newest trumpeter:

I don't know if any of you saw Tage on Chicago Tonight with Phil Ponce (Chicago Public TV) last night (Monday). It was a real brief interview, not as detailed as the one last summer. The good news is that Tage declined the offer of assistant principle from the Cleveland Symphony. He says he intends to stay in Chicago and "learn to play the trumpet". Says he's having a great time here and learning more each day. Hopes to be offered tenure when he's eligible (2004, I think).
He played a few excerpts from the Haydn live in the studio sitting at the interview table. Sounded pretty good to my old ears, even with bad sound equipment and improperly adjusted sound levels. Says he was using his wife's horn because he likes it better than his. When questioned further about why he likes it he mentioned, "I don't know, maybe something about the bore or the action. Who knows... it just sounds better to me"
He's a pretty down to earth individual and seems to have his head on pretty straight. Hope we have him around here for many, many years!
Peace,
Matt |

Yeah Tage is a wonderful trumpet player, we had him down here in St. Louis for a couple of years and it was sad to see him go but as we all know the CSO is the toptier of them all in ways of brass. His last performance with the SLSO was the Haydn and it was really good. |
