Thanks to a very generous person I now have a 1965-66 Holton Galaxy Cornet to play.
So far I really like it compared to my Bach TR200.
Its in like new condition with the original case, keys, warranty card, and shop card.
It's got one small ding in the crook of the bell but otherwise a new looking horn.
It's my first cornet and must say I'm really looking forward to playing it.
A big thanks to the previous owner for sending it my way. I'll cherish always and never get tired of sharing its story.
Any other Holton fans out there?
Edit:
The shop card says C301 for the model but can't find anything on this

What a beautiful cornet, and what a generous act. This is a truly twice blessed instrument, and appears to be in very good condition, almost pristine.
You are a lucky guy, now go practice!! |

Hi,
The Holton Galaxy cornet was a very, very nice cornet of that era. They were both affordable AND a very good horn for the money with a wonderful long bell cornet sound.
Enjoy your "new" horn knowing that you've got a good one . . . that is . . . if it is in good shape, of course!
I would recommend a new valve alignment to be done on any older horn, of course. The felts change thickness over time, and only a proper valve realignment will allow you to realize the full potential of the horn.
Enjoy!

From looking at the valves they currently have cork underneath the felts suggesting a possible allignment? Did Holton make a similar trumpet of that era that is its equal? _________________ IT Security Professional

My parents bought me a brand new 1960's (forgot the year) Holton Galaxy Cornet that I played all throughout high school. Mine was all nickel plated and I loved the way it played. it was marketed as a step up/intermediate horn but it articulated like a pro horn.
Mine was a standard cornet model...not a shepherd's crook like yours is.
FYI, I also played a Conn Constellation Trumpet intermittently and one season I played alto horn on a few pieces.
Enjoy the cornet!!! _________________ MARK /aka "musicmork"/ aka " The Creator "

That's a very nice looking cornet. I've not seen a Galaxy with a shepherds crook bell before. I'll bet it's fairly rare. Hope it plays as well as it looks! Make sure you use a "real" cornet mouthpiece with it, not a "C" cup. You'll get more of the cornet tone everyone's after that way. _________________ "Brass bands are all very well in their place - outdoors and several miles away ." - Sir Thomas Beecham |

It doesn't say galaxy on it anywhere but I thought that was their only "pro" horn. It just says Frank Holton Co. Elkhorn, Wi on the bell.
I've currently got a Connstellation 7B-W and a Curry 60 M for it. _________________ IT Security Professional

Thanks to Brett Getzen and his folks on helping me find out the info on this horn.
I found out that this is the Revelation model, which is the pro line for the day.
Thanks Brett! _________________ IT Security Professional
