Indiana University has hired Joey Tartell as Assistant Professor of Trumpet beginning in the 2003-2004 academic year. Tartell joins John Rommel and Ed Cord on the trumpet faculty.
Tartell has played lead with many jazz groups, including the Army Jazz Ambassadors, Maynard Ferguson, The Woody Herman Orchestra, and the Busselli-Wallarab Jazz Orchestra. He has extensive commercial and recording experience as well.
He holds degrees from Eastman (where he studied with Barbara Butler) and The University of Miami (where he was teaching assistant to Gilbert Johnson). He also attended Julliard (where he studied with Mel Broiles). |
