I just received this from my boss at the University of North Carolina at Asheville, Dr. Wayne Kirby . . . it's public information now, and I hope that the ever-so-humble Dr. Wilken doesn't mind that I'm posting it for all to see:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Colleagues,
It is with great pleasure that I announce the appointment of Dr. David Wilken to the position of Assistant Professor of Music and Coordinator of Jazz Studies. Dr. Wilken comes to us from Adams State College in Colorado where he currently serves as Assistant Professor of Jazz, Brass, and Music Literature. Dave holds the B.M. in Composition from Illinois Wesleyan University, the M.M. in Jazz Studies with a Composition Emphasis from DePaul University, and the D.A. in Trombone Performance from Ball State University. He will begin his work with us in the fall. Dave's email address is ----@--------.---, in the event you would like to send him greetings. I know that he is going to be a wonderful addition to our great faculty!
Best Wishes,
Wayne
Dr. Wayne J. Kirby
Chair and Professor of Music
(Note: I edited out Dave's email address since I figured you could send him a congratulatory post right here.)
So . . . Dave! Allow me be the first to publicly congratulate you on this new position! I, for one, am thrilled that you got the job and I look forward to working under your capable leadership starting this coming fall at UNC-Asheville.
Rich
Dr. Wilkens!!!!
Congratulations on your new position. You will now be close enough for me to come and visit you. Heck, you can come down to Atlanta and we'll get you gigging down here if you like.
I look forward to finally meeting you.
Sincerely,
Congratulations, Dave!
This should be a wonderful opportunity for you...and for the school!
Is anyone bird-dogging your gig at Adams, yet? I might know someone good who is job shopping.
Thanks for everyone's congratulations and welcome!
I'm very excited to be starting at UNCA in the fall. I'm also looking forward to getting to hang out more with Rich, who is so knowlegable about the Pivot System, and picking his brain in person.
Enjoy the ride...but don't let the expression----
"THOSE THAT DO, DO! THOSE THAT DON'T="TEACH!" BUGGYA?
That is what my old mentor...Don Jacoby used to say "IN JEST!" ;0
When I used to student teach over 100 years ago...kids brought me "Shiney Red Apples" for better grades...Hummmmm?
"NOW THE JUST POST AND THROW ROSES ON TRUMPET-HERALD!"
Just razzin and jazzin? Bottom line still is and must remain...to ENJOY THE RIDE in becoming a better student and instructor. Charles Schleuter always set a goal...to NEVER STOP LEARNING!! EVER!!! and TO LEARN SOMETHING NEW OF VALUE about playing the trumpet, each and every day andallthatjazz.
