Hi everyone--
I am preparing to finish my masters in the next year from Florida State. I did my undergrad at the University of North Texas. I am beginning to search for a school to continue for my final degree. Right now, I am thinking about Arizona State, Univ. of Maryland, and Univ. of Minnesota. I am not so much interested in a conservatory, because I really can't afford it.
I was wondering if any of you might have some other ideas for schools and especially teachers I should look into.
Thanks for your input!

Hi,
I am just finishing my first year as a DMA at ASU. It is a great place to be. David Hickman is a great professor and is always around for his students. If you're going to be at ITG you should check his masterclass.

I recommend checking into U. of Kentucky as well. Mark Clodfelter is a great teacher, but I confess that I don't know much about the program. I began dialogue with him via email this past fall, but I have decided to wait awhile on the DMA. Great guy, and one heck of a player!
Good luck, man!

Hi trptcase-
Do you happen to know Scott Kiser? He is graduating at FSU with his master's also. Thought you might know him. He is a very good friend of mine. _________________ J. Fowler

Casey,
You knowing me, take this with a grain of salt. Why would you ever want to leave florida state??? You know the faculty that they have there is wonderful, even more so than I do. Unless you want to teach at FSU down the road of course. But why move from such a great place???

I would definitely check out Indiana University. John Rommel and Ed Cord are both great teachers and I hear the new teacher that will be starting in the fall is really good too. If you're looking for a state university with a great music program, it doesn't get any better than IU. I would also look into Illinois, Michigan and University of Texas at Austin. All have good programs and trumpet teachers with state school tuition costs.
Good luck!! |
