Hi all, just wanted to share. I had the pleasure of being Mr. Vizzutti's guide and ride while he was here at the Maine All-State/Music Educators Conference yesterday. He did three clinics throughout the day and perforned with one of our local big bands in the evening.
Mr. Vizzutti is an outstanding muscian and trumpet virtuoso. His clinics were relaxed and informative and he always demonstrated his point(s) with his instrument with impeccable taste and flair and his performance that evening was just amazing.
He has a deeply felt committment to music education and his new 3-part method book deserves serious consideration by private instructors and players alike.
It was a genuine pleasure spending most of the day with Allen. There isn't a nicer guy around and we talked about everything from trumpets to families to health insurance. And of course, one can always hope that some of that talent will rub off!
So if you get a chance to see Allen Vizzutti at a clinic or concert...don't walk, RUN!
Michelle

New 3 part method book? There was one published by Yamaha I believe about 11 years ago...are you sure this isn't the same one? |

I guess it is new compared to Arban, Clarke, etc.
I like those duets!

The Vizzutti method books are published by Alfred, last I looked. They are very good indeed. The first book is the one I like the most. The technical studies are a modernized Clarke, the tonguing material is as good as anything out there, the warm ups, chord studies, and lip flexibilities are all very fine. Highly Recommended. |

Yes you are correct Alfred...but it's not "new" by any means. Good books though....those quintuplet DT exercises are nasty! |

Ok so I guess they've been out for a while. I guess I've been out-of-it for a while.
Thanks for setting the record straight...I'll just go stick my head back in my St. Jacomes book now

I just wanted to add my voice in apreciation for the Vizzutti method books 1, 2 & 3.
I agree about the quality of the warm up in particular; it has been the bedrock of my own practice and teaching for about the last 5 or 6 years.
If you do the warm up as prescribed, it is like putting money in the bank. You will build up a reserve of quality and toned definition in your chops which you can draw upon as and when you need it.
Another aspect to the books which I really admire is the thoughtful and insightful text which punctuates the musical material.

Just saw/heard Mr. Allen Vizzutti at the ITG here in Cowtown.
I'm selling all my horns and going to start playing my stereo. (just kidding)
An unbelievable performance. Pasted me to the back wall. Needless to say I was 'blown' away.
edit-1
After the last set Allen stood around back stage talking to any and all. A real gentleman!!!
