Can a type IV player have a downward horn angle? I notice that when I am just playing (not pivot system stuff) I hit high notes real nice with a somewhat downward horn angle, but I have been typed as a type IV player. Does any of this matter? Or should a player just play the music and not worry so much about what type he or she is? Please Help. |

You can be an upstream player no matter where your horn angle is.
The angle of the horn does not dictate where the airstream goes. Mouthpiece placement does.
The only thing that dictates the direction of the air is the ratio of upper to lower lip.
More upper lip = air goes down.
More lower lip = air goes up.
Myself and others have gone into great detail on this subject on this forum. If you search some of the back pages you'll find lots more on this.
