Does anyone know anything about Schmidt horns? Quality? Worth $799 as a pro horn? |

None of the above, I imagine. My guess is that you're referring to F. Schmidt trumpets. If so, I've heard they're good Bach clones, but I haven't played one. _________________ Jonathan Vieker

I bought a F. Schmidt flugelhorn. ($675.00) I am very happy with the sound and workings of the horn. It has the sweet flugel sound I was looking for. It came with an unmarked huge deep V mouthpeice that wears me out to play. I played thier trumpets while I was at the store. They played very well. I would compair it to a medium weight Strad. The "Pro" horns (I think they called it a S37) was more in the price range of $1900.00. The salesman said they are made to their spec. in Germany. Maybe that would make them a B&S clone. I want one of their C trumpets. _________________ Ps 100:1 Make a joyful noise unto the Lord |

Thanks for the input. I found this one on Craig's List and have set up a time to try out the horn later today.

I know a guy here who uses one, his is the "Bach clone." He's also a contributor here on occasion. I believe he likes the horn.

Having seen & played many of them and also owned several, it looks like the F. Schmidt Bach clone is a stock silver plated B&S Challenger I with a different stamping. They're some of the best playing horns you can get for the price. I think $799 is probably too much, however. When H&H Music was closing they were selling them brand new for around $650. |
