Hi,
IMHO it's very good because you can use it with any other "technical" book.
In fact I think it's one of the best books one could buy about "philosophy" and "physiology" of trumpet playing.

Embouchure Enhancement fine! -- how you?

http://www.trumpetherald.com/forum/viewtopic.php?topic=5237&forum=5&22

-----------------------------

"Roddy - Do you have have Joe Marcinkiewicz's book called " Buzzzzone" The entire book is about your section called "Finding the Blow." I spent hours reading this book. Also - Ron King has given me many hours of lessons trying the same thing !

I have spent $100.00's of dollars and not one teacher ( Ron King, Charlie Davis, Lew Sollof or Jerome Callet ) has even taken the time to EXPLAIN HALF of what you so very clearly explained in your "Embouchure Enhancement" method.

I swear - I read this - and I got the BIGGEST AAAAHHHAaaahhhhh !!

It IS now CRYSTAL CLEAR TO ME.

Now its really clear to me what I have been trying to do for 5 yrs ! Ron teaches the Adam Routine ( So does Charlie Davis ) - but they don't EVER explain it to you
( what the HELL your supposed to be doing and getting out of it ). I have been buzzing my leadpipe for 3 F#%@*&G years ! ( To no avail ).

Now - I am really pissed because Charlie never explained anything to me ( he kept saying - "just do it" and don't get into "Analysis paralysis" Dam ! - I am a degreed Engineer ! I will analyze ).

Well - your book is really clear to me. I have all of the books you reviewed in your book ( except Brisbois - I would like to get it )

Yours is of greater VALUE than ALL of them!

Thanx Roddy - I'm gonna really be picking your brain man !" - Joe

Roddy's book is great. It's so much more than enhancing your embouchure...almost to the point of being mis-named.

There's good pedagogy there for beginners, intermediate, advanced and pro players alike presented with clear thought patterns and sprinkled with humor.

There's no ego there either. Roddy pokes fun at himself in a few places (you have to understand the Welsh mentality I guess ) and also gives hearty recommendations to a myriad of other players, teachers and method books as well.

It's filled with not only "how-to's" but also a great deal of the mental, emotional and non-chops physical part of playing as well.

A hearty recommend from Wild Bill here.

P.s. I've had the great fortune to meet Roddy in person. He's even funnier in person than he is here and in the book...and by the way, don't let your wives and girlfriends get to close to him. The Welsh charm doggie is absolutley amazing to see in action

Bill! You're back! How's it goin'? Oops, sorry, on topic...

It's a great book covering a wide range of subjects presented in a (usually) humorous fashion. It's a great read, even on my side of the pond, which is good because I'm pretty sure based on my sample of one (1) that I really don't want to understand Welsh mentality.. (joke, no flamses please) And, you get the benefit of being able to hound Roddy if something ain't clear. What more could any of us ask for?

FWIW - Don

edit -- Was gonna' fix "flamses" but decided to Tolkien on instead, my pretties...

Roddy's book is less like a method book and more like the instruction manual that should have come with your horn.
It's really good about pointing out the Why's and What if's you've always wondered about... Someone says, play long tones below the scale to warm up... WHY? For what purpose? Stuff like that, it's a good "Ahaa" Book.

I agree Roddy's book is great. I like to refer it to as my trumpet encyclopedia.. Here is the review I gave it on my website.
