I am pretty new to all of this trumpet stuff. I mean like the mouthpiece stuff and the fancy equipment and the recordings and stuff.
And I got Carnival of Venice by Wynton Marsalis because i heard it was like "T.H.E." piece of trumpet players, and OMFG...i almost fell over on the first time.
I know you guys probably heard it and talked about it...but wow...i couldnt' stop myself from making this post.
It is truly amazing. The tonguing, the cleaniness of the tone. I swear...in one part, it sounds like he's doing the fast stuff and someone else is pointing out the key notes, buts its actually him. I was astonished.
Hail to Wynton Marsalis.
on a side note - if his tongue could move soo fast like that, i bet the ladies love him |

Word is Mr. Marsalis is quite the ladies' man.
As good as the Marsalis/Eastman/Hunsberger recording is, some folks feel there have been better.
Listen to Allen Vizzuti's, or Sergei Nakariakov's recordings of Carnival of Venice, and you'll see. IMO, Marsalis has the richer tone, but Vizzuti takes a back seat to no one in terms of speed and acurracy.
I'm unsure if Mr. Vizzuti has the same rep with the ladies though. |

Marsalis very much the ladies man. Just read the book by Carl Vigeland "Jazz in the Bittersweet Blues of Life". A DAMN great read, btw... As far as the Carnival comment, yeah I remember where I was when I first heard that recording. I was at my friend's house and he put it in for me to listen to. I just remember shaking my head and laughing the WHOLE time. To this day it still amazes me when I listen to it. The other stimulus/response for me is whenever I listen to that, I realize just how much more I need to practice. On that note, goin to the 'shed.
