As a bunch of you know I do lots of horn demos... this time is a little different. I was thinking I'd give a quick demo of 5 different models I offer currently from my mpc line. I used the internal mic on the camera aas my audio recorders batteries were fried. This is a live test from one mpc to another.
The following pieces were used in this test:
1. ACB Papa Bear (huge .684 orchestral designed trumpet mouthpiece)
2. ACB 1 1/4C
3. ACB 3C
4. ACB 3CS
5. ACB TA 1 (my personal signature mouthpiece)
I'm not sure anyone's interested but thought it might be a fun test to do.
Cheers,

Great post Trent. Fantastic playing as always and a very clear comparison/demo of what you have at the shop! Many kudos to you sir! Keep up the fine work!

Trent...my favorite as far as pure sound was DEFINITELY mouthpiece #1!!! I'm sure it would provide a workout but the sound is huge!!!

I was just at Austin Custom Brass - he's waaaay too nice
I got to try a bunch of these: the TA 1, the Papa Bear, the 1.25c, the 3c, and the 3cs. All of which are very, very good.
The Papa Bear does put out an amazing sound. I tried it. It is big. Very very big. As in: how can anyone play that for more than 5 minutes?
All of the mouthpieces are awesome, and I'll probably be picking up one of his 1.25Cs in the near future _________________ More than one trumpet

The following audio samples are raw with no added effects and totally live. Getting the shop up and running has taken a bit out of my efficiency. I literally went from one piece to the next with no breaks (not ideal when you go from a huge orchestral piece to an efficient lead piece in less than a minute). The differences are more noticeable in these audio clips:
ACB Clarke demo:
C scale demo:
a bit of slurs:
a quick taste of Arban:
sample of Stardust:
then a few higher scales:
Thanks again for listening. I will do the same tests for all the mouthpieces when they come in.

Just a quick word of encouragement if you are thinking about trying one of Trent's mouthpieces. I recently did and couldn't be happier.
Over the years, I have spent more money and time trying mouthpieces then I care to admit. I'm sure we all have experienced a new mouthpiece that brings with it a quick reaction (either immediately negative or a welcome honeymoon period where the chops seem to "enjoy" the change).
Over time the mouthpiece "settles in" and we sound like ourselves again (either no change or possibly a slight improvement in one specific area e.g. timbre, articulation, projection, etc.). There are however times when we "trip" over that special piece of equipment that actually helps you produce the sound that you've been hearing in your head. This is what happened with me and the ACB 3C mouthpiece.
I've come to realize that every mouthpiece represents a compromise of some sort. The challenge is to minimize the amount of compromise, having it fall either in a personal area of strength or into an area that has to be leveraged less often. As an example, if a mouthpiece has less then stellar brilliance but clear articulations, it might be a great fit for a player with natural brilliance and trouble with clean attacks.
Trent's mouthpiece has given me a renewed excitement for playing. If you're thinking about trying a new mouthpiece, put an ACB on your short list. I'll bet you'll be glad you did.
Sorry if this sounded like a commercial, I'm just looking to support something good and unique when it comes along.

I could not agree more with Paul. I spent 2+ hours at Trent's shop yesterday and am not only impressed with the ACB mouthpieces. but the personal attention and knowledge, not to mention Trent's "big ears"!!! I got the KA-1, which I have named "Mama Bear" (because she's "Just Right"). and the Lead 1.25 (Baby Bear?). I also played the Papa Bear as well as 6-7 trumpets. What a great day. To be able to chat and play with someone who can listen and make suggestions and who understands my issues and the kind of sound I'm looking for. A class act all the way. If you are anywhere near the Boston area, go visit Trent. I am going to be there again sooner rather than later as one of those Shires trumpets is calling to me. _________________ Bill Wasserman

Thanks for the support everyone! I decided I'd give my TH members a special offer again until Halloween:
20% off on ALL mouthpieces, display racks, cases, and accessories until Halloween! Just use the TH20 coupon in the "checkout" box at the store and you can take advantage of the offer! The coupon box is a bit hard to see but located under the GRAND total on the secure checkout of my store.
I have a bunch of new mouthpieces in the shop (full details coming soon) and by mid-November will have about 50 models in the "standard line).

I picked up a TA2 from Austin Custom Brass yesterday and love it!!! After trying many different mouthpieces, I've been playing a Monette B4S for a couple of years and haven't even thought of trying anything else until I read all the great comments on Trent's products. I have tremendous respect for Trent, as a musician as well as trumpet guru, so I decided to try. It's comfortable, easy to play, and sounds terrific. When I switched back and forth between the Monette and the TA2, my girlfriend asked "what happened? it sounds like you put a sock in your trumpet."
I know..."it ain't the arrows, it's the Indians," but you'll probably see a Monette B4S on the Marketplace soon!
Great products, great service, and a great guy. Thanks, Trent, Do yourself a favor, try it, you'll like it!

I've been playing a TA1 for about 3 weeks now, and comfort actually surpasses my Greg Black pieces, which I've always touted as the most comfortable (for me) mouthpieces made.
But what's a TA2? |

Beats me...maybe it's pronounced "Tattoo!"
Looks to be the same blank, I agree that the rim is really comfortable, maybe 3ish?, medium shallow cup.
Trent, could fill in the details.

Thanks for the great reviews!
The TA2 is another "signature" mpc design that is pretty close to what your feeling Peter.:
It has a cup design which while being fairly shallow bowl shaped has an efficient entrance into the bottom of the cup to make it very efficient without brittle. The rim is semi-flat with good support and is close to a "3-ish" diameter (.664).
The TA1 is still my primary piece and I find it fantastic for everything but lead and show playing. That's where the TA2 comes in for me. It feels like a great show piece. I just did a gig on it playing 3 horn Sinatra arrangements and it was great to solo on and then sizzles above high C without getting smaller in sound shape.
I have about 25 more pieces in the works, including many more "signature pieces (such as a lead piece I've designed, a "screech" piece, an orchestral piece, and a hybrid cup shape)... once the final design, CAD-CAM, acoustic modeling, throat/backbore matching, and other crucial stages are done I'll make a formal announcement of all the pieces with a very detailed comparison chart.
Thanks again for all the support! I really appreciate it a tremendous amount.
Best,

I'm glad you like your TA1, Trent. From your samples, I think you sound best on the 1-1/4C, 3C and 3CS. Sorry, but the TA1 was my least favorite. Probably a different perspective live. _________________ Crazy Nate - Fine Yet Mellow Fellow

Could I resist hopping on Trent's 20% off offer? Well, heck no!
So I ordered the 3C, as it is in my size neighborhood, and it came yesterday. I took it to a rehearsal - a very small combo - piano, bass, trumpet - in a very small room, half of which is the baby grand.
I just plunked the 3C into my Genesis and forgot about it. We played at very low volume for nearly two hours. I never got tired and sat semi-slumped on the couch through most of it. This worked ONLY because I was playing very quietly. I will sit correctly this afternoon at the gig.
The result - lots of control at low volume. Good comfort, intonation, and sound. Not many cracked notes at all. Range comfortable from pedals to high C. I think I will put my other pieces away for a good while now and just play this ACB 3C.
Of interest is that this past summer, my new teacher gently informed me that I was over-blowing. He said I was working way too hard, with my lips open, and had me keep them closed - blowing easily with air attacks to set them into motion, and working at low volume. I have since made a concerted effort to play with that setting and with reduced air, and was delighted that Trent's mouthpiece facilitated this for me. _________________ veery715
