For Bb, I'm playing a Kanstul copy of a Mount Vernon 1C on a Warburton 8* #24 as a primary. I've another that uses same top that I'm playing on a 9*.
I've been considering a Monette B1-5S4. I understand it's pretty close to the Mt V Bach 1C ... with a little something extra.
On C a Bach 1C 22 throat
On Cornet Warburton 3bc/9*
On Flugel Warburton 3flx
Warburton offers a great product that is easy to tailor to my desires. Kanstul adds lots of flex to the equation. |

I use a 3C on a Bb - Bach Strad. Good armchair mouthpiece in my opinion (: _________________ Alex Argiantopoulos, 17

Depends on the gig...
Greg Black, Marcinkiewicz, or Laskey-
But I have a Callet coming today that Greg

Curry 1.25C top with a Bach backbore (10) for Bb and C.
Kanstul 7EW in a monette blank with a 117 backbore and a 24 throat for piccolo. Curry 1.25C deep for for flugel. _________________ Freelance Performer/Teacher WV, PA, MD, and OH http://www.neil-king.com

I too could type a long list, but I'll save your eyes.
Right now for the music I play a Bach 3C seems to work the best. I want to try a Curry 3C "cornet" Mpc if I can find one. Then I hope my experiament is over. I've tried enough and the 3C is working fine. Others feel better, but the sound of the 3C with my GETZEN cornet still gives me the sound I want.
But hey ........choices are cool. "Expensive" but cool.

Hm, thought I would give this a shot because I messed around with some different stuff.
Started off as a kid with the Buescher 88-D that came with the horn. (I occasionally play one for grins, today.)
When that was stolen out of my case in 7th grade, I got a Bach 7C, and played that through my school years.
As a 40-year old comeback player, I tried playing the 7C. Lots of bad noise came out of the horn. More or less in this order, I tried a Marcinkiewicz 3/5C, a Kelly 5C, a Schilke 14, and a GR 66M.
The Kelly 5C seemed to work best, most consistently, so I had it copied in brass with a custom blank like the Buescher pieces. I use different backbores: Doug's #5 on most of my trumpets and his #4 on my Lightweight 400 Model 217 because it plays really really open compared to every other Buescher hon I have.
There's been a few others in there as experiments but I hadn't played any of them consistently for any length of time.

might as well throw in my 2 cents. From eigth grade to now (10th grade), Monette b2, to a jettone t2a to a yamaha 14a4a to a jettone AH s, to a schilke 6a4a and messing around with a Carol F1. Not a bad two year collection for a highschooler |

jlwalker20-
Of the Hammonds I've tried and owned I like them all. My rookie year I played second on a 4MLh which is a great piece and really comfortable. It's quite big, so I find you can get a huge, dark sound out of and you can really push it as far as you want, but air support is a must if you want to have any sort of endurance on that thing. My second year I did play lead, and they switched everyone from the heavyweight models to standard (the normal weight slots better, has more "sizzle" and is a tad less open which can definitely help when running around the field), and gave me a 5ML. That's a great piece too, but often times the rim felt REALLY sharp when using a fair amount of pressure (an inevitability in corps), but I found it too deep to be effective at lead, so I stuck with a trusty 3c and it all worked out. I recently got the 4S, and it is awesome. Really comfortable, and a great big sound in all registers for a shallow piece, and gives fantastic support up top as well. Needless to say I really like Karl Hammond's work.

I marched Crown 06-09, played lead, was the "soloist" in 09. Good times indeed. I teach Madison now, and have since 2010.
During my marching years I stuck to a 3C which worked alright when the book got up to an F or so, but when I played the G at the end of the Puck I really was not happy with the way it sounded on a 3C (or when I had bronchitis and the swine flu, as you can hear on the midseason recording in San Antonio hahaha).
I've since started playing a 3D and have been trying mouthpieces similar - it has the same general shape as a 3C with a touch of shallowness to it that helps the sizzle up top and my endurance, and the transition period isn't bad at all. |

I never thought I'd leave my beloved 7C, but I did.
Now I play a 7. |

For concert band I currently play a Schilke 11C2 cut for sleeves and am going back and forth between a 6 and 6.5 sleeve. Liking the 6 right now. For big band I play a LOUD LM84M that Karl Hammond deepened about .002" for me. The rim difference is pretty great so I am now looking at something similar to the 11C2 but with a rim closer to the LOUD. It never ends right?
My college mouthpiece safari (mid-70's)included too many pieces to list but I pretty much played on anything I could get my hands on.
How lucky, or unlucky depending on how you look at it, are we now that we can look up specs, view profiles and comparisons, read other guys comments on a piece, order it and have it delivered the next day! Crazy.... |

Here's what I'm using right now:
Bb/Eb - Curry 1B
C - Yamaha Bob Sullivan or a Curry 1BC depending on how I feel
Picc (A) - Curry 5P w/ Reeves A adapter
Picc (Bb) - GR 7H*P
If I have to play any lead-type stuff, then I switch out my Bb mouthpiece for a Curry 1* in a Blackjack blank.
When I'm actually playing enough to feel "in shape", then I usually go back to my old go-to mouthpieces for Bb/Eb and C:
Bb/Eb - GR 9AB (it's a prototype that he made for Mike Zonshine..I have no idea what the specs are, but I like it)
C - GR Haefner 1HC
I haven't been doing much playing recently, so I've been sticking with the Curry setups recently, but I do really like the sound I get out of the GR's. Makes me wish I had the time to practice 3-4 hours a day like I used to. |

What the heck...since I've tweaked my selection...
Bb: Monette B3FS7, B2L for lead (might change with the move to the smaller B3 rim)
C: Monette B2S3 cut for Stomvi Flex couplers and a #3 or #2.5 coupler
Picc: Monette AP4LD
All standard models...no Prana..
