Warburton themselves say to hit the mouthpiece with a wooden clave or rawhide mallet to help loosen them. See here

Thank you so much for the response! I'm happy to say that the duct tape trick worked like a charm. Thanks!

Now apply some Teflon tape to the threads to prevent this from happening again.

Teflon tape is designed for tapered pipe threads, which are coarse and because of the taper, start loose and get tighter. The machine threads on a two piece mouthpiece are too fine and have too close a tolerance for teflon tape to fit. You are in for some real frustration if you try to use it.

A bit of valve oil, slide grease, or some anti-seize will prevent thread lockup.

I like to tap gently in the direction of loosening with the wooden handle of a hammer.

If you take the time to make pliers for such an application, then yes. I epoxied some small strips of leather into 2 pairs of pliers for just such an occasion.

However, the goal is for the top and backbore to NEVER stick. oil the threads, and loosen them from one another each time you go to store it. And be careful you dont torque them together when you insert MP into horn.

Good luck.

Thanks Verry715, I stand corrected. I admit that I don't currently own a two-piece mouthpiece. I use teflon tape on my valve caps and finger button threads, so I though that this would be the same application. Sorry for passing on wrong information.

Hit it square on top of the rim. You may have to hit it pretty hard a few times if its really stuck.

Works everytime. I keep rubber lid openers in my case as well. If you loosen the parts after you are done playing each time (or if you are not playing the mp anymore), it is much less likely to happen.
