7c for everything. I don't know why, but it comes with everything I've ever gotten. Never even seen another sized mouthpiece except on ebay. Maybe I should get out more... _________________ 1942 King Cleveland Cornet

Mine are a Custom Bob Reeves trpt mpc. On Flugelhorn I use my rim (43W) on an HF underpart. _________________ Michael Manthey

I started on a 7c, then my instructor jumped me to a Bach 1-1/2c, a great mouthpiece for me. Then a few days ago, I switched to a Marcinkeiwics E9 "Manny Klein" that I am satisfied with, but still getting used to. My sound isn't as dark or beautiful as it was on my 1-1/2c, but I think it's much more "brilliant" and "singing." My range has also improved. The reason I switched is cause' I'm starting marching in the fall (Go Aztecs!) and want something a little more "in yo' face-a!" ![](images/smiles/icon_wink.gif) _________________ Kickin' brass and takin' names. |

Giardinelli New York Vintage, originals or Kanstul digital copy, all the way on all the trumpets. I've started on a HUGE 1V with a Flat rim about 20 years ago and then moved on a 3V always with flat rim. Sometimes i change cup to obtain a particular effect (VMF - VSF rarely a 3BF or 3CF) but the rim, size and backbores (of course Giardinelli vintage replicas) remains the same. For my concept of sound there's nothing like a Giardinelli Vintage. Ah! That mellow Clark Terry sound .... |

I returned to playing about a year and a half ago now, and I found that the my Denis Wick 5 just wasn't a good fit anymore...Soooooo, here we go (starting around 1 year ago):
Sept.-March: Denis Wick 5 (Lead), Bach 5C Megatone (Legit)
March-May: Bach 5c Megatone (everything); but for awhile in May-June, ACB 1 1/2B (Legit), ACB TA Lead (Lead)- both with an ACB A-1 Backbore.
May-August: Warburton 1MD/ACB A-1 backbore (Legit), Schilke 14a4 (Lead).
Now: Warburton 1MD/ACB A-1 backbore (Legit), standard Bach 1D (Jazz), Custom Frankenpiece for Lead (a Schilke 14a cup- with a Warburton rim machined onto it, a Bach #27 throat and a Warburton 11* (barrel) backbore)... _________________ Yamaha 8335 GS Xeno

I used to play a Bach 1 1/4C for years. I tried a Bach 3C for a while, then went to much bigger pieces for a while (about 2 years), namely a Stork Vacchiano 1.5C and the Denis Wick Maurice Murphy Signature 1.5C. I then switched to a Bach 2 1/2 C and stayed on that for a good couple of years up until I was given a Stork 2C with a 26 throat and C backbore, which I'm currently using and I love it!
I always used the same mouthpiece for Bb, C and Eb/D trumpet. I also don't switch for different styles, I stick to the one I'm playing for everything except the piccolo trumpet, for which I either use a Schilke 11A or a Stork Studio Master XMS 10.

Bach 1 1/2 C, 3 C and 10 1/2 C
Monette B6, C6 and a B3 S3.
The Monette Bb trumpet mouthpieces work really well with my Bach trumpets but the C6 is a dog!

Let's see:
Yesterday: GR 62 MS
Day before: GR e62 S
I"ll get back to you tomorrow with the mouthpiece du jour.
OK, I'm back to the: GR e62 S
OK, OK, since the end of November I was using a Callet SC3 s for awhile, but I'm now using his old Super Chops 1. I'm finding it extremely more comfortable.

I used to use a cheap unmarked 3c, then switched to a Yammy 9C4 when i got my good trumpet. Now i use a Curry 1.5TF for concert band stuff and a Bach or Kelly 1.5C for marching and jazz, depending on whether I'm inside or outside _________________ YTR-6310Z- YTR-14B4 and Curry 1.5TF

GR 66C* for everything. Gives a nice, phat sound
for lower and middle, open feel in the upper register,
( what I have of it). The symphonic backbore helps
to open up my horn. |

Monette B6 for orchestra, chamber group, jazz ballads
'Cink Shew or JT 10S for most jazz section/lead playing and rock band.
I used to look for a MP that would help open up my horn. Then I just got a horn that a guy named Flip Oaks opened up for me ![](images/smiles/icon_lol.gif) _________________ Larry Pfeifer |

Trumpet: Flip Oakes 5-L for pretty much everything. I can cover any style and sound with this piece, even though it's pretty shallow. The back bore gives my tone a lot of richness, though I have to work a little to get the sort of depth that a deeper cup gives.
For last 5%, I have a Flip Oakes TCC-5 for mellow, rich tone up to about A above the staff. I use this for starting up after a lay off or a hard performance or if I just don't feel too good at the beginning of practice and want something easy on the ears.
Flip Oakes 5-O for when I want the absolute grandest trumpet sound and can sacrifice just a little ease and response.
Flugelhorn: Flip Oakes Extreme Flugelhorn X-5
As an alternative, if I need a bit more range or I want a little more brilliance and presence to my tone, I use a Flip Oakes WT-5 Fl.

There is one reason that I practice: to be ready at the downbeat when the final trumpet sounds. |

This is the kind of thread that makes me scroll through all the pages, checking to see if I posted a response five years ago.
Apparently not.
Currently, on trumpet, I'm generally switching between a Reeves 43W/S/692s (bent 10 degrees) and a Wedge 5DC threaded on a Warburton Q backbore. And I'm really switching. I use the Wedge for everything I can, so that I can save the Reeves for high stuff. So I'm switching between charts and will even switch in the middle of a chart if there's time. The rims are (obviously) quite different, and that really seems to help survive brutal lead playing.
On flugel I use a Wedge 5FLX.
I have a bunch of deeper Reeves pieces (M cup, C cup, D cup, B cup) for other sounds, but rarely use them except for the B cup/S backbore on C trumpet.
On piccolo trumpet (Getzen Eterna) I use a Giardinelli MF3.
For cornet I either use a Wick 4 or a Zottola 64A. _________________ J. Notso Nieuwguyski |
