Ill have to ditto what Hazmat said and go with the DEG.I own a DEG flugal which is the biggest pile of crap known to man and I owned a DEG soprano that was about as worthless as the flugal.
DEg makes some good low brass instruments for marching such as the Baritone Bugle and the Contra.I believe most of those are actually built by Wilson or Weir(sp) |

I had an old Getzen flugel that the open C octaves sounded as 7ths. Got real good at alternate fingerings though. I think it's a lamp somewhere now. _________________ Bill

While perhaps not the "absolute worst" horn I've ever played I can definitely say that the most frustrating experience I've had was with the last horn I owned: A Bach Strad LT 180, 72* bell, 43-O leadpipe, supposedly one of the better combinations out there. This platypus had a great sound but was an absolute bear to play! I eventually had a valve alignment, several braces removed, different tuning slide and it still played like it had a sock stuffed inside of it. I'm much happier now that I've sold it and moved on.
Sincerely,
Dan |

OMG Steely-Dan.....I had the SAME messed up horn back in the mid nineties.
It was a 43 LP with a 72 bell. Playing a note on it was like blowing through the Windsor Tunnel (Detroiters know what I mean).
Man...that horn sucked worse than an old crack-whore.
Oy vey..I shipped that baby back to WW&B so fast... it got back to THEM before my credit card statement came to ME!!!
Yikes and I had ALMOST forgot that piece of s.....so now what? Therapy?

Made in India pocket trumpet. I now hangs on my mother-in-laws front door with a wreath at Xmas time.
I really feel sorry for the wreath to have to hang out with such a piece of total crap.
Interesting thread,

You know I hate saying this but I have really only played a HoltonT602 that sounds sick and a Bach strad which wasn't too bad. |

My starter horn: Bundy Cornet.
And just this past week, a WalMart trumpet that the band director at the local high school asked me to play! One of his students showed up with it this past week and he asked me to give it a blow. The brass (I think it was brass) was so thin, I could actually feel the valve block giving in my hand when I gave it a slight squeeze. There wasn't enough slides on the thing to come anywhere close to tuning it. |

I have not really played any really bad horns. The one I've liked least is probably a Callichio R37. Really stuffy and the valves were in constant need of oil.......even after a proper cleaning. _________________ Mike

India Pocket Trumpet...The mouthpiece looked like it was made of plastic, the valves stuck, and when I tried to play it, it was like 75% air and only 25% tone. From far away it looks like an instrument, from close a toy (I've heard many toys that sound better as well). I agree with Philpicc on this one...

The unknown brand of pocket trumpet that my dad got on ebay for $90. It's so bad that the valves corroded and are stuck in their casings...

It makes a great lamp, just put a shade over it, run a cable through it and connect it with a bulb on the top of the mouthpiece. Or do what I did = I had fun in my garage hammering the crap out of it. ![](images/smiles/icon_razz.gif) |

Hmm maybe I should have kept mine for a lamp...
I guess it's like this beauty on wwbw (see above), only at a fraction of the cost? |

The first horn I owned. Well, I had some pretty beat up school ones, too. I think is was a Conn..smelled like sweaty feet or worse; 2nd valve slide leaked and was held on with scotch tape. Spit valve on 3rd slide had a badly corroded cork. Paid $25 for it. When you blew it, some flaky stuff came out of the bell. Before that, I was using the school's Bundy. The finger buttons on the 1st 2 valves were missing completely. |

If you click on his feedback, you can see that most are "private"...my guess is he bought a truckload of penny items from his friends to boost his feedback before going into the India trumpet business. He'll need it considing what's he's selling...
NOTE: I always check the feedback when I'm buying. If anything look suspicious (like private feedback or a string of very cheap transactions), I would stay away from it.
