Hi
Well, I am certainly out of the professional loop, but as a part time blues sort of player, I am enjoying the new Yamaha ST5. It's a Silent Brass replacement with something like 50 separate horn effects that can be tweaked. I've run it through the PA & it is pretty cool.. wah wah, distortion, echo, delay.. they sound pretty good to my good ear... Not real pricey but must be used with Silent Brass mic or Yamaha's other trumpet mic that clips to the bell..

To pfrank: I got the chance back in 1971-72 to go to a workshop and a double concert given by Don Ellis at a local high school. Talk about awesome! There was no real stage so we got to sit literally inches from him while he played with his amazing band. His electronic set-up was interesting. He had a special bell mounted Barcus-Berry transducer on the horn. He had a ton of gizmos hooked to it, among which were an VOX octave box, ring modulator, 2 echoplexes, and Maestro sound effects box and a wah-wah pedal. He controlled many of the parameters with various foot pedals having to sit, at times, on a high stool to control two at once. He ran this through 2 Fender Twin Reverbs (in stereo) and lined out to the P.A.
Between the afternoon clinics and the evening concerts they had a hospitality dinner setup at the school for the band and some of the students who stayed over. I got a chance to sit down with him and talk trumpet stuff. He was intrigued that I knew about his electronic set-up and asked what I used. Being 14y.o. at the time I was blown away that somebody like him was interested. What a friendly and down to earth guy he was!! Now that I think about it, you could say I was "rubbing elbows and talking shop" with one of the greatest.
Anyway, to make a long story short, I had a great conversation with him, stayed for both concerts and even had a song dedicated to me "Pussy Wiggle Stomp".
To say the least, it was an event I will never forget just for the experience of it!
Sorry for rambling on!!!!!!

Thanks!

I'm still looking guys. I'm leaning towards an alesis airfx- it's an effects processor that is controlled by infra red light. I figure I can put it on the floor and move my foot around over it to manipulate sounds. Still saving up, I'll let you know what it's like when I finally get it.

I've just joined the land of the electronic, and I've been dinkin around.... Maybe you lot can help out, again...

I'm playing through a Sennheiser E604 mic, which is basically a warmed up SM57 in a more compact package. I've also been taking a line out of my silent brass system and running that into the board, which is a Behringer 4 channel. I'm running a Digitech RP200 effects processor, which I am moderately proficient at operating. Then I'm running that into a Yamaha guitar amplifier of questionable quality.

Here's the issue, I don't want to spend a bunch of money, I need to get out of debt before I get to buy toys. So, can you guys give me some pointers on how to maximize the sound quality on what I've got, or can cheaply fix? What kind of effects are typically most effective? What kind of EQ sounds best, and should I be EQing from the stomp box or the Behringer? What's the optimum setting for the guitar amp? You guys didn't just wake up and know how to do all this stuff, so if you could share a little I might sound decent some time soon!
