Just got back from a really fun gig -- Chicago's Miles o' Music, with all kinds of bands playing for an hour each up and down Michigan Avenue on a beautiful Friday afternoon.
Our jazz sextet played "Birks Works," "Don't Cry, Just Sigh," "Evidence," "Idle Moments," "Proclamation," and "Now's The Time," with lots of blowing all around.
It was a great celebration of good jazz and, for me, took the sting out of this morning's Wall Street Journal, which reviewed the summer's best jazz CDs and completely excluded jazz as a category! What's with that? _________________ Jim Hatfield
