Hey all,
I had great luck with Kelly 5c mouthpieces but I think my sound suffered from it's lightweight. I moved to an old knock off 3C metal mouthpiece that has just the right characteristics for me but I think I am having an allergic reaction to the metal (I'm breaking out from it). Anyone know if the following mouthpiece exists ???
- Plastic rim/cup (I don't care what kind of plastic)
- Has some weight to it so my sound doesn't suffer (maybe a metal throat?)
- Has a steep drop from the rim edge into the cup (is that called a sharp bight? not sure)
- Has the equivalent of a Bach C cup as far as depth goes (I don't like shallow mouthpieces)
- I like a wider, flatter rim (I don't like the rounded contour of rims on Bach mpc's)

Pretty sure Warburton offers plastic rims on metal mouthpieces, or at least plastic tops you can screw into a metal backbore. Not sure if Curry also offers this? |

A plastic top with a metal backbore will sound a lot closer to a traditional brass mouthpiece than an all-plastic will - and if you want, heavy backbores are available (warburton series 80, wedge, etc).
--Warburton 4MD is a very close match indeed for the 3C, couple of different materials to choose from there.
--ACB has several models that look like they'd suit what you're after (3C, MV3C, 665MC... 5C?5B? if you liked your 5c... etc), delrin or acrylic and they're well priced - plus they've got some demo models on the cheap on ebay right now.
--Pickett does Delrin/Acrylic too. |
