Anyone ever use one themselves? Are they commercially available? My second valve slide is loose and buzzes. Hetman #7 is a decent temporary fix.
It's the curse of the MY TRUMPET IS BUZZING thread because I have never had this problem in 42 years of playing trumpet until now, and I posted in that thread yesterday...
So, anyone have and use one? _________________ Scott

Your best bet, if the slide is truly the problem is to take it to a repair tech or see if you can find a replacement slide. The problem with expanders is that you can over do it. Once the metal is stretched, it cannot be shrunk. _________________ Flip Oakes Wild Thing

I appreciate the reply, and am aware of the pitfalls. _________________ Scott

If I've identified the right tool in the Ferree's catalog, looks like it's about $70. If you have a decent repairman, $70 will get the job done properly many times over. _________________ Richard Sandals

agreed! This should be a very easy fix at almost any shop.

I work on a lot of terrible trumpets, some with loose 2nd slides, and I rarely use the two trumpet sized expenders that I have. Maybe it would be better to have the pro do it. If you really want one, I can order it from Allied or Ferree's and sell it to you at a fair price. It's still more expensive that having your tech do it. _________________ Richard Hastings
