I am now in production of playing a run of 1776. A very interesting and entertaining show, especially if you are in the audience. First of all, I like the show, but there is very little for the trumpet player to do.
It is scored for B-flat trumpet and piccolo trumpet, so the addition of the piccolo makes it a little more palatable. Out of all the shows I have played this one is, by far, the least demanding show for a trumpeter. Bring a good book (maybe something historical) along if you ever get this gig.
I was wondering how many other trumpet players have played this show? _________________ Matt Wirfel

We just completed our second weekend of the show and I would like to add that if you play this show you will have to do private practice during the day just to keep in shape! There is very little playing in the show that will keep your chops up - like if you were playing West Side Story or La Cage Aux Folles.
Seriously, I have to find more time in the day to keep up my regular practice routine during show days. Oh well, I will be playing Jesus Christ Superstar, and Chicago next so that will be a little better!! _________________ Matt Wirfel

I played it years ago in HS. I thought: Wow! if all of these musicals are this easy, I'm gonna make hay playing these! What a nieve, HS player I was! |
