Hey Robert, I think Michael (kansastrumpet on here) is still a little guy and I can vouch for his work, including a shipper-mangled Benge 5x bell he repaired for me. Super easy to talk to and knowledgable. Reasonable prices and quick turnarounds. Probably worth a PM or phone call.
Oh and if he counts as one of the usual suspects then flame away, my grandmother told me I wasnt a nice person this week so I have already taken a verbal beating
Dave

I think your a very nice guy!

Dick Akright is semi-retired but ... Brian at Best Repair in Oakland (the wizard's apprentice) is pretty sharp. Rick Oxely in Prescott, Az. has done a good job for me. Chuck MacAlexander of Brasslabs in NYC is phenominal, rarely mentioned here and another great source.

Mynett music (www.mynettmusic.com) is a small business in Fort Wayne, IN. I have limited, but satisfactory, experience with them. They did a nice job of repairing a Blessing Standard cornet for me. Prices were reasonable and work was timely.

I heard that Dick had retired. I will be attempting to contact him today on a similar matter, and let you know.

Anyone know if Rex bullock is still in business? He used to be about the best dent guy around, especially on an interesting horn that was being used as a player

Michelle Kingston in Waterboro, Maine does great work. Trent Austin recommended her to me and based on what she did for me and pics I've seen of her work, she'll definitely be getting a call for an old flugel I've got that needs a little TLC.

Actually, I am ("hopefully" -- your term) going to take-up a collection to pay for all this work.

AND -- If I am pleased with the results, I am going to take out an advert here on TH ( one of those annoying crawls, or flashing ads of which they seem fond ) heralding the repair person's abilities. Heaven help them if they don't do a good job. THAT would be heralded , as well.

Seems fair enough. 'Eh ?

So I just wanted to mention the brass repair tech at my shop if you are still looking for a "little guy" kind of place - Nate Medsker. Nate does excellent work (especially soldering) and refined his skills at Greenhoe trombones (where they're kind of picky about top-notch quality!!). He knows how to work with players to put together just what they're looking for.

Randy Mueller at Wally's in Oregon City, Oregon is pretty astute and he's a great player.

The John Lynch you are referring to in Florida is not the same one as the asymmetric mouthpiece maker (at least, I don't think he is).

But he does do great work on instruments at reasonable prices. He restored a 1947 French Besson Meha for me, as well as my beloved mid-70's Yamaha Flgelhorn.

Sincerely,

John Mohan

+1 to the Micheal Del Quadro recommendation. I had him do some repair work on a rather disfigured Olds flugelhorn a few years back, I couldn't believe how well the work was done. His prices are *really* good as well compared to what I've seen others charge.

Oh and side note, he's also a really pleasant fellow to talk do and do business with. No run-around, no rushing you off the phone. If I had more work that needed to be done, I'd send it to him without a second thought.

+1 For Bill Meyers in STL. His shop is about 10 minutes from my house so I always go to him. He does a thorough and fantastic job. Most of the pro players I know in STL go to him with their horns.

You already pissed off the best guy in the world, but for $27,000 he might consider doing the work for you.
