I just listened a sample of a song called "Passionate Courage" from Terence Blanchard's soon to be released album - Bounce (in stores 8/5/03)... I wish I had another adjective other than AMAZING... check it out...

Yeah, I've been hearing cuts from this album on KNTU. It's great. The big man has a big tone and great ideas. _________________ Schilke '60 B1 -- 229 Bach-C/19-350 Blackburn -- Lawler TL Cornet -- Conn V1 Flugel -- Stomvi Master Bb/A/G picc -- GR mpcs

Off the bat I want to make it known that I am a HUGE fan of Terence Blanchard. I have yet to hear an album of his going back to his work with Art Blakey & Donald Harrison that I did not like. That being said, TB's first release on Blue Note is simply fantastic. "Bounce" gives you everything that you expect from a Terence Blanchard album. Strong composition, amazing improvisation and rock solid playing by all members of the group. My favorite cuts include On The Verge (Terence blazes on this cut), Passionate Courage (including an amazing solo by Aaron Parks), Fred Brown (a jam session that includes excellent dialog between the band members) and a funky-in-the-pocket performance of Wayne Shorter's Footprints (Brice Winston cleans up on this one). The edition of guitar (Lionel Loueke) and Hammond-3/Fender Rhodes (Robert Glasper) really works. Eric Harland is one of my favorite drummers and this album shows why. I heard this group perform at Blues Alley about a year ago (minus Robert Glasper) and they have jelled into something really special. I could go on and on about this one. Great album.

Yeah, Eric. I just bought that CD. Fantastic stuff. He played several of these tunes a ITG and I happy to see that they sound just as good as studio efforts as they did live and in person. Sometimes players stretch more in front of an audience. The playing here is substantial, to say the least. Sounds like the change to Blue Note was a good move. Looking forward too to hearing Wynton's new Blue Note recording when it comes out.

I would agree with the other posters. It's definitely one of the stronger albums I've heard by him. Maybe he was inspired to show Columbia what idiots they were for dropping him. |

I haven't heard the new CD, yet, but I've known about it for a while. I went to the UNT Jazz workshop about a month ago with Aaron Parks' (Terence's Pianist) sister, Anja. She's a burnin' Trumpet player--fun to hang out with, too.

I bought 'Bounce' a few days ago. It's been stuck in my CD player ever since. Columbia blew it to Blue Note's gain. Did they sign Wynton yet? |

This band closed the ITG conference in Fort Worth, TX, this year, they played a really nice set. TB can really blow. Interesting sense of humor, too. _________________ Jeff Helgesen

I just got this CD and I havent gotten a chance to listen to everything on it, but its really great from what i've heard on it so far. I've loved TB's playing since the first time i heard him on his Album "Simply Stated", which was a great deal at $6.00. |
