I am sorry to be so shameless in posting this, but since HME is the only place to legally purchase the remaining Mendez CDs, I wanted TH friends to know about the Closeout sale of Mendez CDs and biography at Hickman Music Editions. Mendez CDs will most likely not be available anywhere for many years after these are gone. I am basically giving them away.

I received all the available Mendez CDs from Hickman Music about 3 weeks back. All I can say is GET THEM WHILE THEY ARE STILL AVAILABLE.
I have all the records - including some doubles - but I am missing 4 CDs which are no longer available, Mendez In Madrid, Trumpet Extraordinary, Trumpet Showcase, and Magnificent Mendez. If you go online to find them, they are now selling for $45 to $50!
The first Mendez record I bought was Trumpet Extraordinary as an 11 year old in 1962. The record is a bit worn, but still very playable and easy to listen to making it eminently enjoyable.
Do yourself a favor and get these last available CDs.
For what it is worth, comparing the sound of the remastered CDs to the original LPs, the records sound fine for their time (Mendez was never given the best recording venues), but the CDs have more information. The orchestra behind Mendez in The Singing Trumpet has some great brass section playing. I don't know who they were, but wow!
