Just finished reading Dr. Jane W. Hickman's biography of Rafael Mendez, "Magnificent Mendez", and have to say the appended section, "The Mendez Teaching and Performing Concepts" is perhaps the most succinct and comprehensive description of how to become, and what it requires to become, a trumpeteer I've read or heard anywhere. Every aspiring trumpet player should read this, and allow him or her self to be guided by the wisdom of Mendez's experience and knowledge...super stuff! _________________ WayneG

That section of the book was compiled by Del Lyren, co-author of the book. Yes, it is very informative! |

I was fortunate enough to see him live at a performance in Barrie Ontario Canada in 56 when I was 12. I can still hear that singing sound in my head! _________________ Have horn, will travel! |

Here's a link to a warm-up based pretty much on Mendez's ideas I posted in another topic. I really like his thoughts on not playing too high, too loud, and resting long enough for the lips to recover from the previous piece.
