|
|
Just got back from St. Thomas Hospital. They took another 700ml of fluid of my right lung. A month ago they too 1600ml off it. After they get my blood work back they will decide whether I need a surgical lung biopsy or just go to an ENT. (my sinuses are a train wreck) I was diagnosed with walking pneumonia in August. Had a round of antibiotics and felt much better, a few weeks later my lungs were a mess again. Back to the doctor and another round of antibiotics. A few weeks later the same thing, but I felt terrible. Made an appointment with a pulmonary doctor about a month ago. That is when they drained me the first time. Then two weeks of Leviquin some Prednisone. A week after that, here I am again. Getting kind of tired of this. Hope they figure it out soon. I have a feeling a lung biopsy will mean a while off the horn. I'll get trumpet withdrawals. Be Jonesin for some horn. _________________ Music is a fire in your belly, fighting to get out. Sorry to hear the bad news. Listen to some great trumpeters and non-trumpeters in your downtime. _________________ "Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending." - Maria Robinson |

I wish you a speedy recovery and I hope you don't have to take time off your horn.
Best wishes,
John |

No nebulizer work? I had it about 5 years back, tough breathing. Doc want you to do some breathing exercises? I did, used that pingpong bong thing. I think it helped a lot but better check with the man... Good luck!!! |

Good luck getting to the bottom of this.
Just a suggestion. If you do get extended time off the horn then consider picking up a keyboard or even notation software. I find that even when I'm away from the horn there are other ways to keep in the game. _________________ "I'm an engineer, which means I think I know a whole bunch of stuff I really don't."

Heard from my doctor Monday. He said all the blood tests and the tests of the fluid they removed from my lungs were negative. No cancer, no lupus, nothing. They don't know what is causing my problem. So they want to do a surgical lung biopsy. The doc told me it would not hurt anything to put it off a little, so I thought I'd wait till the first week in April. I'm pretty busy at work and gigging until then. My wife is totally P.O.ed. She says I should use good sense and get it done right away. Maybe she's right. But it means a 3 day hospital stay and a two week recover period. _________________ Music is a fire in your belly, fighting to get out. You'd better put a horn in the way before someone gets hurt. |

Had the biopsy on Monday. They were going to do a wedgectomy of my right lung and put talc into the pleura to prevent any fluid from collecting there again. But when they got in there, it looked a lot better than they thought it would. They biopsied the pleura, but did not do the wedgeectomy or put the talc into the pleura. They cleaned out the fluid that had jelled and washed the lining out and sewed me back up. They said the problem was inflamation from having had pneumonia for so long. But it is clearing up and they don't expect any more problems. _________________ Music is a fire in your belly, fighting to get out. You'd better put a horn in the way before someone gets hurt. |
