I am in the market for a Scherzer piccolo trumpet (8112) and would like some assistance as to who are the U.S. dealers for these horns, and what are current prices running?
I played an excellent 8112 at Woodwind and Brasswind, and their price was around $2000. I have been told that you can find new Scherzers somewhere in the U.S. for closer to $1500. Can anyone shed some light on this?
The only U.S. dealers I have found thus far are: Woodwind and Brasswind, The Brass Bow, and Rayburn.
Thanks for your help.
If anyone has a great 8112 for sale, let me know!! _________________ Eric Sperry

Have you tried Dillon Music? http://www.dillonmusic.com or Chuck Levin's Washington Music Center? http://www.wmcworld.com
If you call Washington Music Center, ask for Roger Keiper. He is extremely helpful and they have the lowest prices out of anybody.

Dillon Music to my knowledge does not carry the Scherzer line. I did contact Washington Music Center though, and got a quote from them. I would think there has to be a few more Scherzer dealers in the U.S. but I could be wrong. |

When I was searching for my b flat trumpet, Washington Music Center was the cheapest I ever came across, but I ended up finding my Schilke X3 used from a guy in Wisconsin, so I didn't have to buy a new one. _________________ J. Fowler

I would sugguest if you plan to buy a new Scherzer, act now. As the Euro is going strong, Scherzer piccolos in Canada (at least in Toronto) has gone up quite a bit, but the price in the US hasn't. Last time I checked, Scherzer at brasswind's website is still at 1825. |

A very good point about the Euro. I was wondering about that myself. My teacher suggested the lower price that I mentioned, but it could be that his idea of the price was before the Euro became a big deal. The model I am looking at is the 8112, which is $2025. That might be a pretty decent price, but I don't know for sure. Rayburn told me they wanted $2995 for the model with sterling leadpipes and bell. Yikes!
I have heard that Scherzer has a little variance in its production somewhat like Bach, but not to that scale. Has anyone else heard this? If so, that means I should really jump on the one that I played.
Thanks for your help and info, keep it coming! _________________ Eric Sperry

Hey I found this one piccolo that you might be interested in. It's what woodwind and brasswind calls a "B" stock. It's on there for $1725. Here is the link: http://www.wwbw.com/Item/?itemno=114528 _________________ J. Fowler

I received a great deal and fantastic service (on my Scherzer 8112ST in silver plate) from Donovan...Springfield Music. It is an incredible piccolo trumpet. I tested it against a dozen other piccs (including four Schilke's) and there was simply no comparison. |

I found Scherzer also carried a C piccolo trumpet.
Has anyone played Scherzer C piccolo trumpet?
Does it play better than Bb/A?
Are there any good music for a C piccolo trumpet? |

C piccolos are basically for playing the Brandenburg, and a few of the really high baroque concertos such as Richter, Michael Haydn, etc. It also makes the Krol "Magnificat Variations" a little easier.

I've never played a Scherzer C piccolo, but I'd like to try one someday. Has anyone ever seen one for sale in the USA?

Do you think it is more difficult to play than A/Bb Scherzer? Which MP did you use to play?
Thanks.

Hey.
I've tried John Wallaces Scherzer C picc. Its quite nice, but hard to make a really nice sound on. Plus it doesnt have that bottom concert C (ie, bottom Eb on an A picc). However, normal stuff like seraphim and clarke suites work well on it too.
