From what I've heard the level is pretty high.
I'm sure Gabriele Cassone could give you more info. Try and send him a message, I'm sure he'd be rather familiar with most of the programs there.

I heard him in Villa Cagnola, near my Home in northern Italy.

I was in Naples from 1998-2001, so I met him through Marco Braito and a few other people around Southern Italy. I've emailed him a couple of times. He gave me a bunch of great information about the playing situation there. Since he's been mentioned quite a few times in the ITG and seems to be on committees for a lot of contests, etc, I'd figure he knew a lot about the educational system throughout Italy.
