Go to Olds Central at http://rouses.net/trumpet/olds.htm
to see the results of a survey of Olds trumpet prices on eBay.
For more up to date info, go to eBay itself, search for any Olds Ambassador trumpet, then click on "completed items" along the left side of the screen and you'll see what Ambassadors have been selling for the last few weeks. _________________ Jim Hatfield

I would say about $50-$100.
I bought my Olds Ambassador, serial number 212616, for $165.

I've seen them in good shape on ebay for around $100. I started playing trumpet on an Olds Ambassidor back in 1960. Great horn! |

Hey:
Does Olds use the same series of numbers(combined) for both Trumpets and Cornets? There dosent seem to be a separate list for each.
I'm talking 50's, 60's and 70's models. |

According to Olds Central, the s/n lists were merged in late 1932, so that after that date, there was NOT a separate S/N list for cornets vs. trumpets vs. trombones ...

Olds Ambassadors....suck? and I'm sure you do too after hearing a question like this.
I cannibalistically munch on my own flesh when I read questions like this.

I have tried at least a dozen pro-level horns over the past year and a half, and maybe three or four played better than my 1964 Ambassador. I bought mine a couple of years ago for $175. More than most people pay for one, but still a bargain in my book. |

I started in 4th grade back in 1960 on an Olds Ambassador. Mine had the molded plastic case which ended up getting melted as I forgot and left it on a heater in the band room over night. My band director had a 1957 Mendez that he let me play all the time. I loved the triggers and the beautiful workmanship, but both he and I felt that it didn't PLAY all that much better than my Ambassador. When you compare an Olds Ambassador to any student level horns of today, there is no comparison. The Ambassidor feels and plays like a pro level horn. Hang on to it!

I've played a dozen or so Olds Ambassadors and they all sounded great, not to mention the fact they're practically indestructible. Assuming they're in good shape, they're the best value in used horns bar none. You just won't find a horn for $150 or so that will come even close. _________________ Jim Hatfield
