"A little bit of this, a little bit of that. I never had any specific style."

Dave, you rat. I really didn't want to sit here and listen to/watch that for a full 25 minutes, but I couldn't pull myself away from it. Wow. The man sure had some chops.

(aside) that Chevy commercial was a hoot. Can you imagine anything that "unsophisticated" in advertising airing today?

Dinah's singing on "Do You Know What it Means . . . ". A lot of history in her phrasing. A nice listen.

Ref. solo soprano's quote - eclecticism was his style.

Now the real question is, how many of you would trust someone else to put a mute in your horn while you were playing?

I'd like to own a cup mute that sounded that smooth. Even one I have from my father, probably made a decade before this show was aired doesn't sound that way. Modern red/white cups even less so.

I wasn't quoting myself. It's Al Hirt's own words.

Yes. Your quote is what you posted, e.g. what Al Hirt said.

Every time I hear a recording of Hirt, I'm always struck by how incredibly musical and effortlessly fluid his playing is. I know all of the greats have their own style and sound, but Hirt seems somewhat unique in that way (IMHO!).

So here is a maybe non-sensical question, are there any players who you would compare him to? Just curious!
