I just got done reading the Cornet Forum thread in the comments section. I can't believe that it started in 11/2002, six weeks short of one year ago.
For the record, I would still have interest in such a thing. Maybe Todd is less busy now and could help us on this matter? |

I agree with you 100% . . . when the idea came up and somebody suggested that there was a cornet forum on the Raw Brass website, I went there and signed up only to be rather disappointed in the turnout and/or response there.
Even having just a cornet forum topic has been very enlightening for me, and I've seen many posts here under Horns that sorta got buried in the standard trumpet traffic that I suspect would've gotten more attention in their own cornet forum.
Who would moderate a cornet forum? Tom Turner? I'm betting there are others lurking here who would be able to come out and shine as moderator of a cornet forum.

Hi,
Let's bring on a cornet forum!
The ideas, concepts and differences between cornets and trumpets would make a separate section a great idea!
I'd be glad to help if wanted too!

I would like to see a cornet forum. I suspect there will be a cornet in my future and I would like to learn all I can from those of you who know and love them. _________________ Ed Taylor . . . a Messianic gentile |

Here's my vote!
I play cornet about 95% of the time and while all the trumpet related posts are great reading, it would be good to have a dedicated forum for all things cornet!

Maybe one of our new Super Moderators could put in a word to Todd about this subject.

Count me in, I probably play cornet about 1/3 of the time in concert band. _________________ Philip Satterthwaite

I would take part in a cornet forum.
It would be nice to get a space where we can discuss the different aspects of this lovely instrument. I am well versed in the brass band tradition in the UK (have played for a number of them, of varying standards from the lowest to some very near the top), but I know very little about the US traditions, especially not the role of the cornet in jazz. It would be good to learn. |

I have been playing cornet in high level brass bands for 30 years and would love to contribute and learn in a cornet forum away from trumpet battles. I still like the trumpet battles, but the cornet deserves the attention it's own forum would bring. Flugel is also something unique and deserving of it's own area on this excellent site. _________________ Haagston US3 Bb Trumpet

I am all for a cornet site. I play cornet in the community band when the part calls for cornet. I think there is a reason why a composer designates cornet/trumpet parts. You should play the instrument the composer calls for.
Cornets that I have:
White King Master 1911 long
Boston Standard 1898 short
Blessing 1986 short
Conn Victor 1959 long
Ambassador with a shepherd crook bell (my favorite)1956
Conn Director 1957 long |
