Went to see Nicholas at Scullers in Cambridge/Brighton Massachusetts 10/25/03....I have been a fan since I first heard him in New Orleans when he was barely 20 and I have watched and listened as he has progressed and changed and I think he is great...The house was full, mixed crowd, in age and race...excellent and everyone seemed to enjoy his energy and his playing. Also, he was playing his old Bach Strad, not the Conn V1 that he has had with him for the past year or so. I liked the sound of the Strad better...not as cutting, darker and broader. Give him a listen. kpb |

Nice tune - I like the way he uses that Clifford Brown lick.
It looks like he has something plugged into his mouthpiece, I wonder what that is? |

I missed him a couple of months ago when he was here in LA at the Jazz Bakery.
Urggh.
I need to give that high schooler some advice. "Once you pass it up, you never catch up."
I also missed Wynton, Roy Hargrove with Michael Brecker and the Big Phat band this year. |
