Anyone who occasionally grows frustrated with the rigors of trumpet playing may want to consider the determination of this great soloist from the big band era, who died recently in California at 89.
Best, who starred with Miller, Goodman, Dorsey, Shaw and others, continued to practice and perform regularly even after a fall in 1982 left him a paraplegic.
