i am a grade 10 student and i was wondering what tips you could give me for working towards getting into a top school to study music. |

Learn to play musically and with a great sound. If you can do this you will be ahead of almost everyone else your age. Good luck.

thanks a lot both of you and topgun i have already been told by many people that i have good sound so i geuss my next step should be to make everything i play as musical as possible thanks again |

I will say that if as a youngster you realize that musicality is the most important aspect of trumpet playing you are off to a great start. If you go into your auditions making strong musical statements there are going to be some happy audition committees.

Remember that when professors hold auditions, they are not necessarily looking for the best player. They will be looking for someone whose personality will fit with the rest of the studio at the school. Also, they look for someone who has an open mind and someone who will be flexible and easy to get along with. Make sure you keep your grades up in high school too because they want someone who will be smart enough to figure out how to fix things on their own. In that way, they can guarantee that in four years you will be an amazing player and an asset to their school! |

well i have 90's in all my classes because if don't my mom will make quit one of my bands because i have like always had top marks. she thinks i'm it too many bands i'm only in grade 10 band, concert band, jazz band, scotia brass, the community band, a funk combo, and nova scotia honnour jazz which only meets like 3 times a year.then i have my lessons |
