I'm looking at buying a King 600, serial 822418, my real question is that below the serial number is 458 where on other models it shows USA. This shows USA on the bell below the 600. Can anyone tell me what the 458 is? The bore size I thought was 459 so I'm not sure if it stands for the bore size or not.

Thank You for your input it is much appreciated.

I do know that for many years H N White (the original King company) listed 0.458" as its Medium Large bore and I have measured many King instruments at 0.458" (often when they were marked M bore, which was supposed to be 0.448" in their catalogues). I currently have a Master cornet marked Medium that measures my. 458". Plays very nicely.

There's no "standardization" for ML bore being .459

Yamaha is .460, I believe. Some of the French makers (or former makers) used to have odd measurements when converted from metric (mostly thinking of Selmer Paris).

So, your King 600 is .458
