I own one...have had for three? or four years now. It's a decent horn; plays pretty much in tune with itself although I've heard folks who are more experienced prefer the 846RL with the 3rd trigger. You probably know that it's a "copy" of the Yamaha 631. Finish is good for the price. You may find a need to take a one-size larger, very SHARP drill bit, remove the "innards" from the Amado water keys and S-L-O-W-L-Y drill out the drain holes through the tubing: it seems that Jupiter leaves a bit of metal burr on the inside that doesn't let water drain out as well as it should.
The case is Mickey Mouse. It looks OK but the horn isn't held "tightly" (you may have to lay a cleaning cloth in there) and the latches bend easily and flop loose after a while. Don't trust them...either replace the case or put a strap around it to make sure it stays shut.
Still and all, for the price and if you want "new and shiny" it's hard to beat. It's no Quesnon, Lawler nor Conn V1....but it's not in their price range neither. |

| They are ok but for my money I would (and did) get a better horn second hand. I started playig flugel on a Yamah 631 - it wasn't very intune down low and up high though. Now I'm playing a Couesnon Monopole Star... best flugel I've tired ever... |

| I recently bought a 846RL and I am very pleased with it. Great sound and the intonation was better than I expected. |

| I should say that the Jupiter is a fine horn, and probably represents the best value for money with any new Flugel. |

A very nice flugel.
Not quite up there with the premier league of instruments, but for the money, very difficult to beat. The only competition I have tried for it, in a similar price bracket, was the B&S Challenger. |

I'll put in a vote in favor of the 846RL (rose brass bell, 3rd slide trigger). I picked one up last month and it plays nicely. I haven't had the opportunity to play anything fancier (small town life, ya know), but I have been satisfied with my purchase.

One question... does Jupiter use nickel plated valves on the flügelhorns, or monel?
Technically I should know since I have an 846RS, but I don't play it much... |
