I'm looking for a CG teacher in the Los Angeles area. Preferably in the San Fernando or San Gabriel Valleys.

I've been away from the trumpet for a few years, and would like to find a teacher to help me get rid of some of my old limitations and bad habits.

Thanks,
Jason

Scott Wright comes to mind. Ron Meza is on here as well.

In addition to Scott and Ron (both good players who studied with Claude for years), you should consider Paul Witt who I am pretty sure lives in the San Fernando Valley (I don't know where Scott lives, and Ron's place in at Venice Beach).

Paul Witt is currently the Principal Trumpet in the LA Winds (my old position before I moved to Germany - small world!). They rehearse Monday nights at Pierce College in Woodland Hills. I don't have contact info for Paul, but you could show up before a rehearsal (they start at 7:15pm) and talk to Paul.

I think he's probably a pretty good teacher, having studied with Claude for a number of years. He's also the CG student that Lee Loughnane from the rock band Chicago studied with and raved about in an ITG interview that was published around 1997. Lee still is a CG advocate, plays the CG Selmer trumpet and a CG Personal mouthpiece, so he clearly was/is very satisfied with what Paul did for him. Read more here:

A moment of shameless self promotion is about to occur: I give lessons via Skype to students from California to Europe to Australia and they all seem pretty satisfied (hint-hint).

Best wishes,

John Mohan

Another highly qualified CG teacher in the LA area would be Rich Hoffman. He is an accomplished player and teacher. Last time we talked, about a year ago, he was teaching at Cal State Northridge. PM me if you'd like his contact info.
Best,
Bruce

Not quite the desired locale but David Evans in Glendora studied with Claude for many years and is very qualified. I highly recommend him.

Not exactly a CG student but a serious CG devotee is Arturo Sandoval. He's in the LA area and last I heard he was taking students.
