Anyone have any info and insights into this Argentinian player? Just bought his "Soundances" CD and it's pretty impressive.
He's a Verve artist, but his Web page gives no info about him.

Hi,
Diego is an Argentinian like myself.
He is the son of a band master of a British School in Buenos Aires.
(Ward College )
He studied in Berklee.
He has been mentored by Paquito D'Rivera for years and
belonged to his quintet.
He lives in the USA
He has acidic hands and wear out his trumpet in short term.
He replates his horns in a repairer of my neighborhood because
is cheap, but I think that his plating is horrendous.
I don't know anything else.
Hope it is useful.
Regards.

Thanks guys! According to his Web page he's played with some very heavy groups. Interesting note about his acidic hands. Guess that explains the black leather valve guard on the horn he's holding on the cover of "Sundances."
If he won 2nd place in the '97 Monk competition, who won lst? _________________ Jim Hatfield

Darren Barrett, I think. I saw Urcola last year with bassist Avishai Cohen's group. He sounded great. |

Met him last spring when Paquito did a clinic with us, very cool guy, had some very good suggestions regarding style and latin music (as should be expected). It was kind of a trip for me, he was talking about how much louder you have to play when someone like Faddis is on the lead book... Nice guy though.

I've gotten deeper into his CD and, wow, is it impressive! I posted a mini-review in the Recordings forum under the "What CD's Are You Listening To?" thread. _________________ Jim Hatfield
