I need a good concerot for a concerto contest im doing. I need something that sits well on the B flat horn. Not like the hummel which requires lip trills. I just got done doing the arutunian for two other contests and im ready for somethin else. suggestions would be appreciated

Neruda or Haydn, both commonly played on Eb and/or Bb. Not many other concerti for Bb trumpet. If you can play a sonata, try the Kennan, the Hindemith or the Stevens. Good luck.

It can't be a sonata. It's for my local youth symphony and the winner plays with the symphony at a concert and takes a share of a 1000$. So does the Neruda work well on Bflat?

Try the Wal-Berg Concerto. It's a relatively easy piece to play (compared with the Arutunian), yet sounds impressive.

Neurda works well on Bb, about the same range as teh arutunian, though more often, but much much lighter. Its a transition between the "Baroque" and "Classical" style...its right on the borderline, and i have heard it called "Rocco" (sp?). Ive never heard of the Wal-Berg, anybody got a sound clip?

Good luck! I'm doing Telemann in D, 2nd mvt for my youth orchestra competition this year. My first performance on my new picc...Im positively giddy. Did the Arutunian last year, and Vivialdi Duo the year before. Always get beat by the dumb string players:) Though last year a horn and tuba won:)

It's Rococo

Also, the thing about a concerto competition...you need to play something that is flashy if you want to win...it almost always goes to flashy violin players, because they are crowd pleasers. It shouldn't be this way, but unfortunately is. Concerto competitions are always about the piece. You'll probably never win a concerto competition playing the Haydn. That being said, I can't think of another piece for you on B-Flat...sorry? It's probably time you invest in a C or Eb trumpet if you are competing in concerto competitions and want to win.

Right now I'm doing the Fasch for a couple of competitions..we'll see what happens.
