Not about tpt, but I am sure many of you would be interested in this major CSO audition news.
Alex Klein, who was a previous principal of the Chicago Symphony, won the audition today and will be the new principal oboist of the CSO.

That is great news! He has one of the prettiest oboe sounds I have ever heard.

I'm very excited to be able to see him now!
I'm equally curious if any specific thing was able to help him overcome his focal dystonia. The article mentioned "acupuncture, deep massage, steroids and even injecting Novocain into his hand."
I remember watching an interview with him, seeing his hand in a fist the entire time. He played beautifully at the end of the interview, but he did mention that he could only open his hand about 3/4 of the way.
So glad he is back! |

From what I understand, he has a custom oboe that allows him to play with his condition.
