Does anyone have any particular favorites in the huge Arban monstrosity? If so, I would like to know what your favorites are to give me a starting place in it. Even the workouts and such which you think are the best. That would be really appreciated. Thanks. _________________ There are only three kinds of people in this

I've had a lot of fun playing characteristic study #12, page 296 I beleive. Its the only of those long fearsome things I've really looked at a lot, but I enjoy it. It's neat to switch from fast to a slower lyrical section and back again really fast. And there's lots of little arpeggio-type things which sound neat. Just my 2 cents. |

To add to the previous post I would have to say most of the Characteristic Studies are like that and that I have fun playing them all for this reason. I especially like the one I'm trying to perfect right now, No. 11.
I also tend to enjoy playing all the themes from all the Theme and Variations in the back. It can be challenging on some to really make them sound incredible... not because they are hard, because they are easy. |

Speaking of the Themes and Variations in the back, my vote would have to go to Fantaisie Brillante for the prettiest and most musically appealing solo in the entire Arban's. It may not be as popular as COV, nor is it as difficult, but it's my personal favorite, especially now that I play it on cornet instead of trumpet. _________________

Arpeggio Studies and the art of phrasing are very good sections and I like to work on them quite a bit. _________________ J. Fowler

You've gotta love the Characteristic Study #5. Have you heard the ITG recording of all the studies? Inspiring, to say the least. |
