|

Hello , I have been playing for just over a year now using a Jupiter JTR300 student trumpet. This instrument has been fine but I now want to upgrade. My favored music shop is selling a new Conn Selmer TR510 at a knock down price of £335. I have tried to research this model but have drawn a blank. Can anyone tell me if this is a good trumpet or should I avoid it like the plague. If I should avoid it what would should I be looking for. My budget is £550. I have seen the Conn selling for £520 elsewhere so it can't be too bad or am I just being naive ? |

Just because someone wants a lot of money, doesn’t mean the product is good. Nor does “saving” a £120 mean you are getting a good deal.
I don’t have experience with either instrument so I cannot comment on there respective worth. |

I'm pretty sure it's just another student model trumpet. The TR500 was an Asian-built Bach - not a great horn. I would guess that the TR510 is similar. _________________ LA Benge 3X Bb Trumpet

I'm going to agree with Mr. Finn, and add the comment: "I do not see the TR5xx as an upgrade from a JTR3xx".
It's possible that your Jupiter is a better horn than the Selmer you're looking at.
Just an opinion,
Gary. |

Not necessarily. Why don't you ask if you can play-test the Bach? If you like it and the price is right, it's a good horn for you. If you don't, avoid it.
That said, I agree with the previous poster that it probably isn't a step up from your Jupiter. _________________ B&S Challenger 1 3137

The next step up from your horn in the Conn-Selmer catalog would be either the TR200 or the King 2055 (Silver Flair). There's also the Yamaha YTR-4335. You'll want to playtest everything as there's no point in spending so much money without feeling a real difference and taking pride in your equipment. |

Thanks for the advice Operagost , I have just got hold of a brand new YTR4335Gii at a very reasonable price. Its a beautiful instrument and I know I have made the right choice. |
