Check this out.....

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2574385110

Looks familiar doesn't it. Someone has already used the "Buy Now" and I have no idea who it is cause I would seriously warn them of the scam.

This horn belongs to Richard Watson and he tried selling it a few weeks back ....

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2566709707&category=16214
here is a bio on him:

http://www.majesticbrass.com/quintet_richard.htm

I hope this buyer comes to his/her senses.

Usually a private auction and selling from the UK is a giveaway of a scam.

Sad isn't it? Not as blatant as the Zeus scams that continue to plague Ebay though.

During the first (legit) auction of this horn, I actually got an e-mail from someone from Mexico who claimed to have this horn factory sealed brand new for $2500!!!! What a knucklehead! I just laughed and said "Sure, I'll send you $2500 for it no problem ... THANKS!!!" Then I reported him to Ebay.

Guess I'll have to be more watchful how I deal with Ebay in the future.

How do these scammers show up on ebay with such positive feedback ratings. If this means that the seller's feed back ratings have no meaning it sheds a whole new light on ebay buying1

I wouldn't be surprised if they purchased all that cheap crap just to get a good rating on his/her (I say her because it could be a woman based on the items purchased) feedback.

Has anyone contacted the buyer to let them know it's a scam???????????????????

My bad, I guess you can't contact the sell when they're listed as private.

Why does the listing say 'Free shipping within the United States'?

We've also recently seen an example of people stealing ebay accounts. This is what I'd do with a stolen ebay account.

The first link is of a Monette STC2 horn that was listed sometime today from the UK and someone has already used the buy now feature.

The 2nd link is of the original auction and is the legit one from "America"! The seller whoever he/she is stole pictures from the original acution and listed it on a bogus auction with a low "Buy Now" so somone would buy it.

I hope the buyer figures it out.

I have talked to the original, legitimate, seller and the UK sale is not related to him at all, though it lifted the text from his auction.

I bet he was furious. I doubt someone from the UK played with the Boston Pops also ... would be a vacation more than a gig it seems!

Can Ebay do nothing to stop this? If someone is trying to steal $3000 using their site, it seems to me that they should!

What a beautiful horn though ...

Does anyone know of a way to inform ebay of this scam or report it to someone that can do something about it? I would hate to think that someone is getting swindled for $3000.

These scammers are running some pretty big operations now... I saw this on Ebay a few minutes ago... a guy from the UK... asking to "Contact Us Before Bidding"... he has 0 feedback... the auction starts at $1.00 with no reserve...

It 's the same [CENSORED] that's been throwing Zeus's up on Ebay 50 times a day that I (and others here) have reported a zillion times. Apparently he's branching out.

What still galls me is that the folks at Ebay are apparently too [CENSORED] stupid to know how to block a domain from registering email addresses. This guy uses the same email address every damned time he creates a new phoney account.

No he doesn't use the same e-mail. Ebay doesn't let you do that. They also no longer let web-based accounts. Chances are his e-mail is at the same domain (which cannot be blocked because then they risk blocking many legit users) or he uses e-mail forwarding from new forwarding accounts.
